Opportunity

This week I made a new recap video from week 5 of the Fairview Varsity football team. They played a team out of Denver called Smoky Hill and beat them 56-0 at Fairviews home field “Recht Field”. The past few match ups for Fairview have been blowouts. The Fairview Knights are first in their league “5A Front Range”. It has been fun making recaps each week because there are so many points scored each game. As the season goes on and into playoffs the competition will get more challenging. This is my update with the team!

Switching gears, I want to talk about opportunities in the sports creative industry in this week's blog. I have been a sports creative since my junior year of highschool and I am now a senior in planning to graduate in the spring. This journey in the creative industry has been led by all sorts of diverse opportunities. I started out filming my high school's football team for free, learning the ropes and making hype videos on a gopro hero 6. This was not the ideal setup for the content I was trying to capture. I then ended up buying a Canon 5D Mark III by the end of my junior year. I had no idea how to use this camera gear and I attended youtube university. My first big opportunity was filming the Team USA 18U football team for my friend who was the running back for the team. The game was at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Getting to be on the field at AT&T at the age of 17 was an unreal and establishing experience to pursue this passion. This opportunity led me to getting a gig with 7v7 that spring. This opportunity of working with the Ambush 7v7 team allowed me to connect with coaches & players from other teams. I started to build a portfolio after these few opportunities, and then my senior year rolled around. I decided to film a powerhouse team with no pay. I decided to rent a camera setup that was nicer as well. The matchup was between two of the biggest private school rivals in Dfw. Nolan Catholic VS Parish Episcapal. I produced my best video I had ever produced and it didn’t go unnoticed by either team. The next week the Nolan Catholic coaches reached out to me wanting to hire me for the rest of the season. This gave me a ton of experience with working in the sports creative industry. Learning professionalism was the best soft skill I learned from this opportunity. Fast forward to my sophomore year at CU, I wanted to pursue my passion again outside of the classroom and started working for the CU creative department. This has definitely been my biggest opportunity because of the growth that has been made in my technical and soft skills. Opportunity is not something I don’t take for granted and has allowed for me to have growth in this industry. I look forward to continuing to chase opportunity, and give it my best!
